The time I made a best friend.
It all started when I received a call from a concerned mother. The mother told dispatch that her son was caught with a knife, and when asked why he had this knife, he said that he was being bullied at school. For the sake of the story his name will be “John”.
Upon arrival at his apartment I met with him. I sat down with him and introduced myself. I asked him what his name was, and he didn’t answer he just looked at the floor. We sat in silence for a few minutes, eventually, he looked at me told me his name was “John”. Now that we were introduced to each other I asked him what was going on. He told me that there were kids in his neighborhood that were picking on him, and that he just could not handle it anymore.
He continued to tell me that the knife was only for his protection because he was scared these other kids were going hurt him. I told him that I would be here to check up on him everyday I worked and that if he needed anything to call me. I provided him a number and said that I would be help whenever I could.
Fast forward several months, after many many visits I realized his birthday was coming up, I went and bought him some gifts and we had a party for him.
After almost two years I still make my visits and we are still close, he is no longer getting bullied and getting good grades in school. This is what keeps me going, this is what helps me from getting burned out.
Nothing further, POPO out.
